Less than a year after the war in the country’s northern Tigray region ended, Ethiopia’s military is battling an ethnic militia in the neighboring Amhara region in a part of Africa already ravaged by conflict.

The military junta told an American diplomat this week that they would kill Niger’s elected president, who they’re holding hostage, if other countries tried to intervene.

China underscored its desire to “actively promote” efforts to end the war in Ukraine “on any multilateral occasion.”

Tensions were rising in the West African nation over demands by African and Western countries to reinstate a president ousted in a military takeover.

The vessel, which has about 3,000 vehicles on board, has been burning since Tuesday. One crew member died.

New blazes broke out on Corfu and Evia as tourists were being flown home.

The prime minister, wearing a bloodstained shirt, said he struck his head on a door. One analyst called it “very convenient.”
